However, several industry sources said that their companies have not been blocked by NRO from taking pictures over Ukraine.
During his tenure at Maxar, Dan Jablonsky developed a track record for “bringing a lot of first-of-its-kind solutions” to its customers, “not just bringing [products] to market … but developing that trust, developing that scale that Ursa Major is going to need,” said Ursa Major founder Joe Laurienti.

One Maxar official told Breaking Defense today that Maxar's "mission focus" on NRO will not be affected by the split up.
The changes included, among other things, the removal some restrictions on non-Earth imaging and rapid revsits of ground targets, NOAA explained, "and most notably," a removal of all of the restrictions imposed in 2020 on X-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR).
The NRO is planning to award new contracts for commercial satellite imagery, perhaps including that of other satellites, the spy-sat agency's head of commercial operations, Pete Muend, said today.
"The evolution of OWT shows how 3D terrain and information services are becoming essential tools for planning and decision-making not just for the U.S. Army but for a wide range of military, civil and commercial institutions," Maxar's Tony Frazier said.
Under the deal, Maxar will be able to expand its SAR data offerings to international customers, and Umbra will get global eyes on its products, company officials told Breaking Defense.
Commercial imagery has proven invaluable in the Ukraine conflict, both to the US government's information war against Russia and to the Ukrainian military.
Payam Banazadeh, CEO of Capella Space, told Breaking Defense that the Ukraine war has been a "critical place for the industry to show itself," but NRO says it isn't accelerating the SAR acquisition process.
Pete Muend, director of the NRO Commercial Systems Program Office, told the USGIF GEOINT 2022 conference that RF tracking for Ukraine has been "great benefit," and spy agency wants to expand the capability.
Chuck Beames, York's executive chair, told Breaking Defense that once up and running, the Tranche 1 constellation "will be used in direct support" of the Combatant Commands.
"We've been talking about the fact that space is contested, and we're probably right in the middle now of our first space fight," said Lt. Gen. Michael Guetlein.
